Why can one species of lizard run fast on sand but not on rock, but it's the other way around for a similar lizard species? In this research-based course, you'll get a firm grounding in the scientific method while using high-speed video to record and examine the mechanics of vertebrate locomotion in the lab. By mixing analyses of these recordings with lectures, workshops, discussions, and demonstrations, you'll learn to develop hypotheses, test them against your own analysis, and present your results at Academic Spree Day. The last time the course was offered, students analyzed recordings of lizards collected in the Philippines.
